About Me
As a native New Yorker with family roots in Malta, Mary lived on a Caribbean island before moving to Las Vegas. Mary Bennett’s interest in multi-cultural portraiture is no surprise.
Although largely self-taught through study of the masters, Mary has also taken art instruction at SUNY Purchase in New York and engaged in private instruction. She makes a particular point of experimenting with different forms of mediums but most closely chooses to work with pastel.
Mary has exhibited her work in New york City, Greenwich (CT), Westchester County (NY), the Bahamas Art Gallery, the Central Bank of the Bahamas in Nassau and various galleries in Las Vegas (NV). She was a volunteer art teacher in the primary schools on the islands for eight years. Her works are in private collections worldwide.
In the future, Mary hopes to get involved in art therapy to aid troubled children to express their emotions through art in an unstructured environment. She views art as something that can be used to sensitize the minds of children and adults in this age of machines and desensitization.
